My Approach

As a trans masculine, asexual person, I am passionate about offering inclusive services and integrating a harm reduction approach into my work by fostering client autonomy and meeting people where they’re at.

My work with clients is influenced by Internal Family Systems, Narrative therapy, and mindfulness. I also acknowledge the limitations of traditional therapeutic modalities when working with neurodivergent people and therefore typically adopt a person centered approach.

Internal Family Systems is a therapeutic approach that operates from the idea that everyone has multiple parts of themselves that make up who they are and manage their day to day lives. Our work together may include identifying these parts, learning more about them, and exploring ways to get them to work better together.

Narrative therapy places emphasis on the stories we tell ourselves. Together we could work to unpack the story of your life and rewrite it in a way that feels authentic to you. Exploring parts can be a great way to do this.

Mindfulness involves practicing bringing your attention to the present moment, influenced by self soothing strategies.

Person-centered approach focuses on you as the expert of your own life. You get to decide what working together looks like, and what does or doesn't work for you. Traditionally person centered approaches strive towards self-actualization, meaning for you to become the best version of yourself possible. By adopting an anti-oppressive lens, I acknowledge that this isn't possible without having other needs met first and that we alone can't be responsible for meeting these needs. Therefore some of our work together may include recognizing the ways in which we internalize social understandings of our experiences (e.g internalized ableism, transphobia) and doing our best to work within these oppressive systems.
